Privacy Policy

CheckinPlace ("the app") is built around one simple idea: your trips are yours. This policy explains what information the app uses, and — just as importantly — what it doesn't do with it.
The short version
- Your trip data (stops, routes, photos, notes) is stored only on your device. There is no account, no server, and no cloud sync — CheckinPlace never sees or receives it.
- Location is used only to record your own stops and draw your own routes, on your own device.
- We don't run analytics or advertising, and we don't sell or share your data with anyone.
Location
CheckinPlace uses your device's location to automatically detect stops and draw the route between them as you travel. Depending on the permission you grant, this can include background location access so a trip keeps recording while the app isn't open. This data is used to build the trip you see in the app and is stored locally on your device — it is not transmitted anywhere by us. You can change or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings.
Photos
When you add a photo to a stop, CheckinPlace copies that photo into the app's own local storage so it can show it alongside your route. The app only accesses photos you specifically choose through the system photo picker or camera — it does not browse your photo library on its own.
Calendar
If you turn on calendar sync, CheckinPlace can add your planned trips to your device calendar using Apple's Calendar framework. This is optional and off unless you enable it.
Screen recording (Holiday Reels)
CheckinPlace can record a "Reel" — a short video playback of a trip — using Apple's screen-recording framework. This only happens when you explicitly start a recording, the video stays on your device, and it's only saved to your Photos library or shared further if you choose to do so through the share sheet.
In-app purchases
Your first Reel is free. Coins used to unlock additional Reels are purchased through Apple's App Store using Apple's own In-App Purchase system. CheckinPlace never sees or stores your payment details — that's handled entirely by Apple, under Apple's own privacy policy.
Maps
CheckinPlace uses Mapbox to display maps and routes. When location access is granted, Mapbox's mapping service receives precise location data (coordinates, altitude, and accuracy) to operate, tied to a session identifier that rotates every 24 hours — not to your identity, and not used for advertising or tracking. This is governed by Mapbox's own privacy policy, separate from CheckinPlace — see mapbox.com/legal/privacy.
What we don't do
- No accounts or sign-in — there's nothing to create, so there's no profile of you to store.
- No analytics or crash-tracking SDKs that report your usage back to us.
- No advertising, no ad tracking, no selling of data to third parties.
- No cloud backup of your trips — everything lives in the app's own local storage on your device.
Deleting your data
Deleting a trip or Holiday inside the app removes it immediately. Deleting the app itself removes everything CheckinPlace has stored, since none of it exists anywhere else.
Children
CheckinPlace is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from children.
